1,000 Books, One Big Step Toward Literacy
A Special Donation from Tucker middle School in the USA
Some donations change a shelf. This one is changing a future.
Motherly Heart Organisation is thrilled to announce a generous donation of 1,000 books from the students, staff, and families of Tucker Middle School in the USA. The books were collected through African Library Project book drive, facilitated through its partnership with Enjuba, and were picked up from Enjuba before being delivered to Motherly Heart Organisation in Uganda. The donation arrived after months of collecting, sorting, and packing a true labor of love from a community thousands of miles away that chose to invest in the lives of young women here in Uganda.
A Gift That Goes Beyond the Page
For many of the young women in our programs, access to books has always been limited. School libraries are often small, personal book ownership is rare, and the simple joy of choosing a story to read for pleasure — rather than for an exam — is a luxury few have experienced. This donation changes that.
The books cover a wide range of subjects and reading levels: novels, picture books, nonfiction, and educational resources that will support both recreational reading and classroom learning. For our team, it's an opportunity to build out a proper library space within our program — one where girls can browse, borrow, and fall in love with reading at their own pace.
Why This Donation Matters
Literacy is one of the strongest predictors of long-term opportunity. Girls who read regularly build stronger vocabularies, sharper critical thinking skills, and greater confidence in the classroom — all of which support Motherly Heart Organisation's broader mission of empowering young women through education and mentorship. Books also do something a curriculum alone can't: they open windows into other lives, other places, and other possibilities, showing our girls worlds beyond their immediate circumstances.
For a program built on nurturing potential, a well-stocked bookshelf is more than décor. It's fuel.
How the Donation Came Together
Students at Tucker Middle School in the USA participated in the book drive as part of a service project. Over the course of several months, students donated gently used books from home, hosted collection bins around campus, and worked with teachers and parent volunteers to sort and pack everything for shipment. Their effort is a wonderful example of how a single classroom initiative, multiplied by hundreds of students, can create real impact on the other side of the world.
We're deeply grateful to the students, teachers, and families of Tucker Middle School for their generosity and for making this donation possible. We also extend our sincere appreciation to the African Library Project and Enjuba for facilitating the book drive and helping bring these books to Motherly Heart Organisation in Uganda.

What's Next
The books have arrived at our facility and our team is already hard at work cataloging and organizing them for the girls in our programs. In the coming weeks, we'll be setting up a dedicated reading space, and we can't wait to share photos and stories of the girls discovering their new books for the first time.
